I Stay the Streetlight

Quest giver N'tanmo in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks

Summary and analysis

SummaryAnalysis

N'tanmo praises you as a model adventurer, then hands you her lamp job. Sisipu reveals that N'tanmo asked her for this work, then passed it to the first adventurer she met. N'tanmo often pushes her duties onto new adventurers.

The missing-persons list

Ginnade's list of missing citizens (likely the kidnappings), then a lighter errand that introduces Sisipu of Back in the Water.

The kidnappings

What happens, step by step

  1. N'tanmo needs help keeping the city a bright and cheery place.
  2. Unable to leave her post, N'tanmo has tasked you with inspecting the streetlamps about town. Refill them with streetlamp oil lest they run dry.
  3. You have refilled all of the guttering streetlamps. Speak with Sisipu at the Fishermen's Guild to receive more streetlamp oil.
  4. You learn that N'tanmo has a habit of foisting her duties upon fledgling adventurers, much to Sisipu's disapproval. However, you sense that there is more to Sisipu's frustrations than meets the eye.
Remember this

There is more behind Sisipu's grumbling than you see at first. One clue is her own quest, Back in the Water. Since the Calamity, she has been stuck on land. She is eager to go to sea again.

Worth knowing

Lore

Sisipu scolds N'tanmo for dodging work. Sisipu herself is doing someone else's job, as acting guildmaster of the Fishermen's Guild. If you take up Fisher, she is your teacher.

Lore

Sisipu is angry that N'tanmo dared to ask her for this work, talking nonsense about her savings. But then N'tanmo pushed it onto the first adventurer who came along: you.

Easter egg

N'tanmo has a secret. As a habit, she dumps her lamp-lighting job on new adventurers. You are just the latest newcomer to do her rounds for her.

Remember thisAfter the Calamity

There is more behind Sisipu's grumbling than you see at first. One clue is her own quest, Back in the Water. Since the Calamity, she has been stuck on land. She is eager to go to sea again.

In-game text

You carry streetlamp oil. Its item text calls it the 'fuel used to light the streetlamps of Limsa Lominsa'. It also says the oil 'reeks of fish'.

Characters

Who they are, and what they do in this quest.

N'tanmo

N'tanmo is meant to fill the city's streetlamps with oil, but says the trouble with missing people keeps her at her post.

N'tanmo praises you as a model adventurer, then hands you her lamp job. Sisipu reveals that N'tanmo asked her for this work, then passed it to the first adventurer she met. N'tanmo often pushes her duties onto new adventurers.

Sisipu

Sisipu is at the Fishermen's Guild, where she looks after the stores of streetlamp oil.

Sisipu is angry that N'tanmo asked her for this work, talking about savings, then handed it to you. Being young and pretty, she says, is no excuse. She is the Fishermen's Guild's acting guildmaster, and the teacher of anyone who takes up Fisher.

Other languages

The game was written in Japanese and rewritten, not just translated, for each language. Here is what the other versions say, next to the English.

Japanese案内係のお仕事~妹の場合~
‘A guide's work: the younger sister's case’
FrenchLa jumelle délégante
‘The delegating twin sister’
GermanEs werde Licht
‘Let there be light’
English, N'tanmo

Sounds like you're already in the Yellowjackets' good graces. You truly are a model adventurer─a paragon among your fellows! ...Um, do you think you could do me a favor?

French

J'ai vu que vous aviez donné un coup de main à ma sœurrr jumelle.

‘I saw you gave a hand to my twin sister.’

N'tanmo rolls her r's and calls N'delika her twin. The English N'tanmo speaks plainly and never mentions a twin.

English, Sisipu

...You're doing what!? What am I to do with that girl?

French

Cette feignasse de N'tanmo a encore profité de la gentillesse des aventuriers pour ne pas faire son boulot.

‘That lazybones N'tanmo has once again taken advantage of adventurers' kindness so as not to do her job.’

French Sisipu insults N'tanmo outright as a lazybones; English Sisipu only sighs in exasperation.

English, Sisipu

Being young and pretty does not give you license to shirk responsibility! Aye, she'll get her oil all right...and a piece of my mind to boot!

German

Sie ist ja noch jung und unbekümmert, aber dass sie so schnell die Lust an der Arbeit verliert, hätte ich nicht gedacht.

‘She is still young and carefree, but I wouldn't have thought she would lose her desire to work so quickly.’

English says young and pretty; German says young and carefree, leaving out her looks.

N'tanmo

Sounds like you're already in the Yellowjackets' good graces. You truly are a model adventurer─a paragon among your fellows! ...Um, do you think you could do me a favor?

N'tanmo

You see, I'm supposed to go and fill up all the streetlamps with oil so that they'll stay lit through the night. But thanks to this business of missing people, I can't simply up and leave my post.

N'tanmo

If you could tend to the streetlamps in my stead, I'd be eternally grateful.

N'tanmo

Oh, and when you're finished, please fetch more oil from Sisipu in the Fishermen's Guild. We're running low here, and she has care of our stores.

Refill guttering streetlamps with streetlamp oil.

Speak with Sisipu at the Fishermen's Guild.

Sisipu

...You're doing what!? What am I to do with that girl?

Sisipu

She has the nerve to ask me for work, twaddlin' tripe about her savings, only to foist it on the first adventurer that comes along!

Sisipu

Being young and pretty does not give you license to shirk responsibility! Aye, she'll get her oil all right...and a piece of my mind to boot!
