Pirates and the AdmiralTrade and the city

What happens, step by step

  1. Mordyn would like to make you a completely legal proposition.
  2. Mordyn invites you to take on a job for the Kraken's Arms, one of Limsa Lominsa's greatest pirating crews. Should you be interested, seek out Captain Carvallain, who awaits upon the balcony above the Seventh Sage.
  3. Carvallain has prepared two sets of spice samplers, which he requires delivered to two individuals. Take the first to Ginnade in the Coral Tower, and the second to Lyngsath at the Bismarck.
  4. You have delivered both sets of spice samplers. Report back to Carvallain.
  5. In completing the task, you have endeared yourself to Carvallain. He reveals to you his ambitions to grow rich as a privateer, attacking and looting Garlean ships in the Admiral's name.
Where it leads

Next in the play order: On to Summerford. Staelwyrn, the farm's owner, is Baderon's old mate.

Key lines explained

The lines worth a second look, in the order you hear them, and what each one means.

Deliver a Seventh Sage sampler to Ginnade at the Coral Tower

GinnadeOh? You thought that you had brought me spice? I see you are not familiar with Carvallainisms. For the sake of convenience, he uses the word “spice” to refer to literally anything he has procured on the high seas.
Easter egg

Carvallain calls anything taken at sea 'spice'. It is one of his 'Carvallainisms'. Ginnade's 'spice' sampler is actually Garlean firesand, a powder that explodes.

Deliver a Seventh Sage sampler to Lyngsath at the Barracks

LyngsathLast I 'eard, Othard was under imperial rule. 'Ow the seven 'ells did Carvallain manage to get 'old o' this?
Remember thisTrade and the city

Remember Othard, the far eastern continent that Lyngsath says is ruled by the empire. Also remember Carvallain, who somehow trades there. Both come back in a later expansion.

More about this quest

LorePirates and the AdmiralTrade and the city

Many chefs shop at the Seventh Sage spice shop. But the shop also serves to hide the business of the Kraken's Arms.

Lore

Carvallain was born heir to House Durendaire. Like every firstborn of Ishgard's High Houses, Carvallain walked a golden path.

LorePirates and the Admiral

Carvallain jumped at the chance to escape the stuffy, narrow world of Ishgardian high culture. The way out was to join the pirate crew.

In-game textPirates and the Admiral

The item text of the Seventh Sage Sampler lists unusual spices, with instructions. That is 'not something you would expect from the captain of a band of bloodthirsty pirates'.

Title reference

The title plays on James Bond's 'licence to kill'. Carvallain's crew also have official approval. But theirs is a licence to reave, which means to rob by force.

Characters

Who they are, and what they do in this quest.

Ginnade

Ginnade is at the Coral Tower, headquarters of the Yellowjackets, who keep the peace in Limsa Lominsa.

Ginnade sees that the 'spice' is Garlean firesand, an explosive powder, and may order some. Ginnade explains that Carvallain calls anything gained at sea 'spice', and that he is no pirate but a heavily armed trader for Lominsan interests in the East.

Mordyn

Mordyn looks for adventurers who want coin, to work for the Kraken's Arms, one of Limsa Lominsa's greatest pirate crews.

Mordyn offers you paid work with the crew and sends you up the steps to the balcony to meet Carvallain, their captain. Do right by Carvallain, Mordyn says, and the captain does right by you.

Carvallain

Carvallain, captain of the Kraken's Arms, waits on the balcony above the Seventh Sage, a shop selling spices from the East.

Carvallain is pleased with your deliveries. With the Admiral's blessing, his crew attacks and loots Garlean (imperial) ships, which he insists is legal; he hopes to grow rich this way. Born heir to an Ishgard noble house, he left that stiff world for piracy.

Lyngsath

Lyngsath is the head chef of the Bismarck, who gets new samples from the Seventh Sage spice shop.

Lyngsath has never smelled anything like the new root, which grows in Othard. Since Othard is under imperial rule, Lyngsath wonders how Carvallain got it, but plans to cook something fresh and new with it.

Carvallain

Greetings, friend, and welcome to the Seventh Sage, purveyors of the finest spices from the East. All of our products are guaranteed obtained through completely legal means.

Carvallain

Oh, you do not seek spices, but employment? Well then, let us speak of how you might be of service to our organization.

Carvallain

Our Misery returned from her latest voyage bearing exotic spices never before seen in Eorzea. I have prepared two samplers, each of which I would have you deliver to certain individuals.

Carvallain

The first is for Ginnade, whom you will find at the Coral Tower. The second is for Master Lyngsath, the head chef of the Bismarck. And do make certain the right person gets the right set. Go now, and return here once you have accomplished the task.

Deliver a Seventh Sage sampler to Ginnade at the Coral Tower

Ginnade

Welcome to the headquarters of the Yellowjackets, the keepers of the peace in Limsa Lominsa. Is there aught I can assist you with?

Welcome back. It would seem both samples were rather well received, and this is in no small part due to our affable courier.
