Summary and analysis

SummaryAnalysis

Wyrkrhit calls the driver gutless for dumping a millioncorn seedling when a monster sprang from it. He sends you to recover it and take it to Lyulf at Swiftperch, and lets you keep whatever Lyulf pays, since the plant may hide more danger.

The Skylift and Swiftperch

Rebuilding after the Calamity: the swamped Skylift, and Swiftperch, the village the Serpent Reavers attack in Ch. 6.

Pirates and the AdmiralAfter the Calamity

What happens, step by step

  1. Wyrkrhit, a Skylift operator, needs you to recover a cargo load abandoned by a terrified wagon driver and deliver it to its intended recipient.
  2. A wagon driver was so startled by the appearance of some nightmarish creature from the midst of his cargo that he dropped the load over the side before fleeing back to the Skylift. Look for the abandoned millioncorn seedling somewhere along the road to Swiftperch.
  3. You have recovered the abandoned millioncorn seedling. Continue on to Swiftperch in western La Noscea and deliver the cargo to the expectant Lyulf.
  4. You arrive in Swiftperch to find the locals as desolate of life as the surrounding fields. Lyulf alone appears possessed of purpose, but it remains to be seen if his efforts to restore a measure of vitality to the settlement will bear fruit...or corn, as it were.
Where it leads

Next in the play order: Need to Breed. Lyulf's late father bred the dodos here; they escaped in the Calamity and went wild.

Worth knowing

Lore

Millioncorn's item text calls it 'native to the recently discovered New World'. This is like how corn came to Europe from the Americas. The story sails there much later.

Lore

Lyulf has bet his whole fortune on this crop, and calls on Nymeia. Nymeia watches the stars and planets and is the goddess of fate. A goddess of fate is a fitting choice for a gamble.

LoreAfter the CalamityThe Arcanist’s art

Swiftperch is a new settlement. It was built as part of a big plan to rebuild aetheryte camps. It stands around the ruins of a watchtower that once served the Yellowjackets.

Easter egg

The quest journal can't resist a farm pun. It says Lyulf's efforts may 'bear fruit'. Then it corrects itself with 'or corn, as it were'.

In-game text

The seedling's item text explains why it matters. This type of millioncorn was bred over generations to grow even in the rockiest soil.

Patch change

Patch 5.3 shortened the A Realm Reborn main story. It removed 'Courier for a Day', a parcel delivery for Wyrkrhit. That quest used to lead into this one.

Title reference

The title turns the common phrase 'thanks a million' into a pun on millioncorn. That is the crop Lyulf has bet his whole fortune on.

‘Ah, stay on your guard all the same, the monsters may still be around.’

German

Es kann natürlich gut sein, dass sich in den Samen noch Monster verstecken, also sei vorsichtig!

‘Of course it may well be that monsters are still hiding in the seeds, so be careful!’

‘By the way, there is an aetheryte at the Booby Tower Settlement, so it may be worth your while to drop by anyway.’

„Tölpel“ means both the booby, a seabird, and a clumsy oaf. So the name is also a joke, which the English lacks.

English, Lyulf

‘As you see, we live in a rather dreary area, but if the corn growing works as planned, the people will at least have full bellies again.’

English aims to restore hope to the residents; German aims to give them full bellies again.

You, madam/sir, seem fit to burst with vim and vigor! Might I persuade you to abide a while and help nurture this ailing settlement?

Whatever he pays ye for the cargo is yers to keep. After all, I don't rightly know what else is lurkin' inside that plant, an' ye deserve to be rewarded for yer troubles.

Deliver the millioncorn seedling to Lyulf in Swiftperch

Lyulf

Has Nymeia Herself forsaken this desolate land? Though I understood there were risks in gambling my entire fortune on a crop of millioncorn, I at least expected the seedling to be delivered before disaster struck!

Lyulf

Is...is that my millioncorn seedling!? O joyous day! It may seem a paltry beginning, but the yield of this particular variety of crop plant is nothing short of astonishing.

Lyulf

As you have undoubtedly noticed, Swiftperch lacks a certain, shall we say, vital energy? Thus I mean to restore a modicum of hope to its residents by growing a veritable ocean of corn!

Lyulf

You, madam/sir, seem fit to burst with vim and vigor! Might I persuade you to abide a while and help nurture this ailing settlement?
