Feint and Strike

Quest giver Baderon in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks

Summary and analysis

SummaryAnalysis

Baderon was once a sellsword, a fighter for hire, and learned to read the script of the Sahagin, the "fishbacks," from orders taken off dead foes. He sees the Victory attack was a decoy, guesses Swiftperch is the real target, and sends you to Reyner.

Swiftperch's defense and the Admiral's banquet

The Limsa climax: the Reavers' real target is Swiftperch, and the banquet reveals Leviathan and makes you the Admiral's envoy.

Pirates and the AdmiralBeast tribes and primals

What happens, step by step

  1. Baderon has a task for a trusted adventurer.
  2. According to Baderon, the missive intended for Ahtzapfyn is written in Sahagin script, and details plans for the destruction of the Victory. Though the message mentions a diversionary strike on Swiftperch, the Wench's proprietor seems convinced that the Serpent Reavers are lying, and that the struggling settlement is their true target. Take Baderon's hastily translated note and deliver it to Commodore Reyner at the Coral Tower.
  3. Though Reyner is grateful for Baderon's warning, he believes Swiftperch is but one of several settlements which the Serpent Raiders could be planning to attack. While the commodore debates where to deploy his forces, a Yellowjacket arrives bearing word that South Tidegate is being assaulted by the Sahagin. Lacking the resources to defend both locations, Reyner instructs you to make haste to Swiftperch and speak with the Yellowjacket, Ryssfloh.
  4. With the help of the Yellowjackets, you defeat the marauding Serpent Reavers and spare the residents of Swiftperch a fate worse than death.
  5. According to Y'shtola, the Sahagin and their pirate allies were being manipulated by a masked mage she calls an “Ascian.” Though much remains shrouded in mystery, not least the strange black crystal you discovered near the mage's remains, the truth behind the kidnappings has finally come to light. Return to the Coral Tower and report to Commodore Reyner.
  6. Your meeting with Commodore Reyner is interrupted by the appearance of Admiral Merlwyb, who commends you for your brave deeds. In recognition of your services to Limsa Lominsa, she insists that you attend a forthcoming banquet as her honored guest. Proud and daunted in equal measure, you look forward to what promises to be a memorable occasion.
Where it leads

Next in the play order: High Society. Reyner says few get this honor, not even the Admiral's officers, but you earned it.

Accepting the quest

Baderon'Ere's a rough translation o' the message.
In-game text

Baderon's Jottings is the 'rough translation' Baderon hands you. Its item text describes writing that cannot be understood, scribbled all over it.

Solo Instance

BaenryssRemember, no killin' the smallfolk, or it'll be your blood what stains Lord Leviathan's altars!
Remember thisThe kidnappingsPirates and the AdmiralBeast tribes and primals

The Reavers' captain wants the smallfolk alive for 'Lord Leviathan's altars'. That is why the kidnappings happen. The banquet (step 21) tells you who Leviathan is.

Solo Instance Part 2

Y'shtolaThey are known as the Bringers of Chaos...or Ascians, to give them their proper name.
Remember thisBeast tribes and primals

Y'shtola names the masked mage from Just Deserts (step 9) an Ascian. That is one of the 'Bringers of Chaos' who steer the beast tribes. From here on, Ascians keep appearing in the story.

Y'shtolaWait. I do begin to see. You have been blessed with a special gift.
Remember this

Y'shtola is surprised that you know where she comes from. Yet she never spoke of her homeland. Then she realizes you have been 'blessed with a special gift'.

RyssflohAnd your assistance is much appreciated, too, Lady Y'shtola. Please give our regards to the Scions.
Remember this

This is easy to miss. Ryssfloh's regards 'to the Scions' are the first mention of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. This chart ends with that group (step 29).

More about this quest

Lore

The Lominsan Ring is your first unique quest reward. Like other items of its kind, it cannot be sold or desynthesized.

Easter eggPirates and the Admiral

In the traditional Roegadyn language, the first name Merlwyb means 'Sea Woman'. The family name Bloefhiswyn means 'Blue Fish's daughter'.

Characters

Who they are, and what they do in this quest.

Ryssfloh

Ryssfloh is at Swiftperch, waiting for the help Commodore Reyner promised to send.

Ryssfloh sees how far you have come since the "wide-eyed whelp" fresh off the ferry. Ryssfloh leads the defense of Swiftperch, a town its people rebuilt after the Calamity, a great disaster, then closes the kidnapping case and sends regards to the Scions.

Baderon

Baderon has read the coded letter and wants to share what it says with an adventurer he trusts.

Baderon was once a sellsword, a fighter for hire, and learned to read the script of the Sahagin, the "fishbacks," from orders taken off dead foes. He sees the Victory attack was a decoy, guesses Swiftperch is the real target, and sends you to Reyner.

Yellowjacket

This Yellowjacket is one of the soldiers under Commodore Reyner in Limsa Lominsa.

A Yellowjacket rushes in: the Sahagin are attacking South Tidegate, and the garrison needs help at once. At Swiftperch, Yellowjackets fight beside you, shouting "For Limsa Lominsa!" Back at the Coral Tower, one announces the Admiral and cheers your seat at the feast.

Glazrael

Glazrael is at Swiftperch with the defenders, ready for the pirates.

Glazrael is fed up with the pirates' "feint after bloody feint." In the fight, Glazrael battles beside you, eager to "split some heads," and urges you to keep pummeling the masked mage.

Merlwyb

Merlwyb has not met you face to face as this quest begins.

Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Admiral of Limsa Lominsa, thanks you at the Coral Tower. You seem familiar to her. She calls Baderon a good friend and invites you to a banquet as guest of honor. Her names mean "Sea Woman" and "Blue Fish's daughter" in Roegadyn.

Y'shtola

Y'shtola is not with you as this quest begins, while the kidnappings remain unsolved.

Y'shtola arrives when she senses the masked mage and fights beside you. She names him an Ascian, one of the "Bringers of Chaos" who steer the beast tribes. She is a Sharlayan and, surprised you know it, decides you have "a special gift."

Ahtbyrm

Ahtbyrm is not seen here; his father's pirates attacked the Victory.

Baderon mentions him only through his father: the tattoo-faced Serpent Reavers were said to be paying "Ahtbyrm's old man."

Reyner Hansred

Commodore Reyner is at the Coral Tower, hoping for a quiet day, unaware of Baderon's warning.

Reyner trusts Baderon, who is "rarely wrong," but a Sahagin attack on South Tidegate takes his troops. He sends you to Swiftperch instead, wishing the Warriors of Light still walked among them. Afterward he praises you warmly and presents Admiral Merlwyb.

Other languages

The game was written in Japanese and rewritten, not just translated, for each language. Here is what the other versions say, next to the English.

Japanese
‘Darkness Stirring at Swiftperch’
FrenchLa théorie du complot
‘The Conspiracy Theory’
GermanAblenkende Manöver
‘Diversionary Manoeuvres’
English, Baderon

Good to 'ave ye aboard, lass/lad. Now then...where to start?

‘I haven't always been the honest man you know.’

French opens with a confession that he was not always honest; English just welcomes you aboard.

English, Baderon

Back when I was younger an' nastier, I earned me livin' as a sellsword. In that business, if ye wanted to know what yer enemy was up to, you 'ad to learn to read the orders ye prised from the cold dead 'ands of 'is mates. That's 'ow I came to know 'ow to read yer message.

‘You know, back then, when I was still young and dashing, I earned my gil as a mercenary.’

English: Baderon was younger and nastier; German: he was young and dashing.

English, Baderon

Truth be told, the script was only too bloody familiar. Them's Sahagin letters, lass/lad. An' I should know─I've gutted more fishback messengers than I can count.

‘Yes, it is the language used by an enemy with whom I have often crossed swords: the Sahagin!’

‘These are the letters of the beast tribe “Sahagin”, an enemy I crossed blades with many times in the past.’

French is far milder: he merely crossed swords with them, no gutting of messengers.

Japanese is milder: he crossed blades with them; nothing about gutting messengers.

English, Baderon

It gets worse, though... The plan to blow up the Victory is all in 'ere, right down to the fine details.

‘You have to grasp what it means, and old Baderon can tell you that.’

German has him boast that he can tell you the meaning; English warns it gets worse.

English, Baderon

The fishbacks ain't interested in the Maelstrom's baby! They're after men, just like they've always been. They're sendin' their pirate lackeys after a civilian target.

‘It's the Sahagin we're talking about; they must be scheming something behind the scenes.’

English says the Sahagin are after people, as always; Japanese says they must be scheming something in secret.

English, Baderon

'Ere's a rough translation o' the message.

‘I've translated the Sahagin scrawl into understandable Eorzean for you.’

German puns: "Klaue" means both a claw and messy handwriting, fitting the fish-folk.

English, Baderon

Oh, an' give 'im an 'and, eh? Ye can be damn sure 'e'll need one.

‘If things go badly, it could affect the future of Limsa Lominsa.’

English says he will surely need a hand; Japanese says Limsa Lominsa's future could be at stake.

English, Reyner

Yes, I am Reyner. Ah, you must be the adventurer whose name seems to be on everyone's lips.

French

Et tu es... ?

‘And you are...?’

French Reyner does not recognise you and asks who you are; English Reyner already knows.

English, Reyner

You bear an urgent message from Baderon? Why do I get the feeling that my hopes for a quiet evening/afternoon are about to be cruelly dashed? Tell me, what is afoot?

French

Voilà qui n'est guère rassurant...

‘That is hardly reassuring...’

‘...Hm, that does not sound good.’

French drops his wry joke about a ruined quiet evening and is simply worried.

Japanese drops the wry joke about a ruined quiet evening; he is simply serious.

English, Reyner

I will marshal the Yellowjackets for battle immediately.

‘I cannot mobilize the Yellowjackets to a place without being certain it is the right one.’

English: he will marshal the Yellowjackets immediately; French: he cannot mobilize them without knowing where.

English, Reyner

The only question is where to send them. While I concur with Baderon's assessment that the attack on the Drydocks was intended as a diversion, Swiftperch is but one of several possible targets for the main thrust.

‘Baderon thinks it's Le Martinet; I tend to believe it's one of the two dams.’

English says Swiftperch is just one of several possible targets; French says he leans toward one of the two dams.

English, Reyner

The only question is where to send them. While I concur with Baderon's assessment that the attack on the Drydocks was intended as a diversion, Swiftperch is but one of several possible targets for the main thrust.

‘Hmm ... Only Baderon himself said that we can't say for certain whether the Tölpelturm settlement really is the pirates' target.’

English: he concurs with Baderon's assessment; German: Baderon himself admitted they cannot be sure of the target.

English, Reyner

The only question is where to send them. While I concur with Baderon's assessment that the attack on the Drydocks was intended as a diversion, Swiftperch is but one of several possible targets for the main thrust.

‘All sorts of places along the North and South Dam, which keeps the Sahagin out, are just as possible.’

German specifies the other candidates: points along the dams that hold the Sahagin back.

English, Reyner

By the Navigator... It seems my decision has been made for me.

French

Bon sang, ils choisissent bien leur moment.

‘Damn it, they certainly pick their moment.’

‘Argh, what on earth is happening...’

English: his decision has been made for him; French: they certainly picked their moment.

English: his decision has been made for him; Japanese: he asks what on earth is happening.

English, Reyner

Aye, the Serpent Reavers are in league with the Sahagin.

‘I see... the Sea Serpent's Tongue are pirates who have joined hands with the Sahagin.’

This is the pirate crew that attacks Swiftperch. The English name keeps the serpent but drops the tongue.

English, Reyner

...Which means there is every chance this assault on Tidegate may yet prove to be another feint. The fact remains, however, that we can ill afford to ignore it. And that leaves Swiftperch vulnerable to those pirate traitors.

‘Are you trying to say that the Sahagin attack is a diversion too?’

English: he himself concludes the assault may be another feint; German: he asks whether you are suggesting it.

English, Reyner

...Which means there is every chance this assault on Tidegate may yet prove to be another feint. The fact remains, however, that we can ill afford to ignore it. And that leaves Swiftperch vulnerable to those pirate traitors.

‘So the real target after all is the “Swiftperch settlement”!?’

Japanese ends on him concluding Swiftperch is the true target; nothing about the Tidegate attack being unignorable.

English, Reyner

It is at times such as these that I wish the Warriors of Light yet walked among us. But wishes will avail us naught. your name, you must serve in their absence. Make for Swiftperch with all haste and lend your strength to the squads I can spare for the settlement's defense.

‘Run and help the defenders - I can't spare any people!’

English: he sends the squads he can spare; German: he says he cannot spare anyone.

English, Ryssfloh

In any case, do you know what you're fighting for here? This place─Swiftperch─it was rebuilt by folk who stood strong in the face of every hardship the Calamity threw their way.

‘This hamlet doesn't look like much, but it is very important to all of us, because this is where the rebuilding of the country began after the Seventh Calamity.’

English says resilient folk rebuilt the place; French says the country's rebuilding began here.

English, Ryssfloh

In any case, do you know what you're fighting for here? This place─Swiftperch─it was rebuilt by folk who stood strong in the face of every hardship the Calamity threw their way.

‘But you know that this won't be a piece of cake.’

English asks if you know what you're fighting for; German warns that this will be no easy job.

English, Glazrael

Feint after bloody feint! Those pirates are getting too damn clever by half!

‘These pirates are more cunning than their ugly mugs would suggest!’

German jokes that the pirates are smarter than their faces look.

English, Serpent Reaver Deckhand

'Ere now, I thought all them Yellowjacket worms was meant to be busy. That useless scrag ain't followed the plan, 'as 'e?

German

Haben wohl die Karte verkehrt rum gehalten!

‘They must have held the map upside down!’

English blames a useless scrag for not following the plan; German jokes they held the map upside down.

English, Serpent Reaver Deckhand

'Ere now, I thought all them Yellowjacket worms was meant to be busy. That useless scrag ain't followed the plan, 'as 'e?

‘That cretin Ahtzapfyn must have botched his job...’

French names the bungler outright: Ahtzapfyn.

English, Baenryss

Remember, no killin' the smallfolk, or it'll be your blood what stains Lord Leviathan's altars!

‘We need their blood to quench the thirst of Lord Leviathan.’

‘These ones are precious gifts to offer to Lord Leviathan!’

English threatens the pirates' own blood on Leviathan's altars; French says the villagers' blood is needed for Leviathan.

English threatens the pirates' own blood on Leviathan's altars; Japanese calls the villagers precious offerings for Leviathan.

English, Baenryss

The Yellowbellies ye can butcher at will! Them dirt-eatin' slugs'll be crushed under the full might o' the Serpent Reavers!

‘But the yellow plague you're welcome to massacre.’

German insult is "the yellow plague"; English puns on "Yellowbellies", meaning cowards.

English, Ryssfloh

The rest of you─we meet their charge where we stand! Let us bear the commodore word of our victory, or no word at all!

‘Captain Hansred is counting on us, let's not disappoint him!’

English vows to bring word of victory or no word at all; French just says not to disappoint him.

English, Yellowjackets

Yellowjacket Infantry: For Limsa Lominsa!

‘Yeah!’

Japanese soldiers just roar a cheer; English has them shout for Limsa Lominsa.

English, Baenryss

Rargh! I'll gut all you Yellowbellies an' dance on yer gizzards!

‘We'll stuff your guts into your pretty little yellow jackets!’

English threatens to dance on their gizzards; German threatens to stuff their guts into their yellow jackets.

English, Ryssfloh

More of the bastards!? Come on, then!

French

On en viendra jamais à bout !

‘We'll never get the better of them!’

Japanese

‘Are we being pushed back!?’

English defiantly says come on then; French despairs that they will never get through them.

Least I went down fighting...

‘C-Captain Reyner...’

Japanese has him cry his commander's name as he falls, not take pride in fighting.

English, Yellowjacket

So cold...

French

Llymlaen, guide-moi jusqu'à toi...

‘Llymlaen, guide me to you...’

‘Did I let my guard down...’

English: the dying soldier says so cold; French: he prays to Llymlaen to guide him.

Japanese has the fallen soldier blame his own carelessness; English has him feel the cold.

English, Masked Magus

Whence springs this preternatural might!?

French

Intéressant...

‘Interesting...’

German

Dies ist eine ... unvorhergesehene Wendung.

‘This is an ... unforeseen turn.’

English: the mage asks in alarm where this might comes from; French: he merely says interesting.

German mage calmly notes an unexpected turn; English mage is alarmed at your strength.

English, Masked Magus

F20223O mournful voice of creation! Send unto me a creature of the abyss, my thrall to command, that I may smite mine enemies!01

French

F20223Ô essences primitives de la création !

‘O primal essences of creation!’

German

F20223Zürnende Stimme der Schöpfung!

‘Wrathful voice of creation!’

English calls on the mournful voice of creation; French calls on the primal essences of creation.

English calls the voice of creation mournful; German calls it wrathful.

English, Masked Magus

Your very being imperils the plan. You cannot be suffered to live.

‘With this, your pitiful remnant of staying power will be plucked out at the root.’

English says your existence endangers the plan; German mocks your pitiful remaining strength.

English, Masked Magus

Unnngh... That the wisdom of the Paragons should be brought low...by mere mortals...

‘The secret arts of us, the envoys of heaven... To think they could be broken...’

‘Next time... the power of heaven's messengers... will des...troy you.’

‘The secret arts of us heavenly envoys...’

天使い (amatsukai) is written with 天使, 'angel'. The English name 'Paragons' has no heaven in it.

Y'shtola hears the name and takes it as proof that the Ascians are behind it.

The masked mage threatens you with them. Y'shtola explains that this is the beast tribes' name for an Ascian like him.

English calls them the Paragons; Japanese calls them heavenly envoys.

English, Y'shtola

“Paragons,” did he say? Then it is as I feared.

French

Les messagers divins !? Voilà qui confirme mes craintes...

‘The divine messengers!? That confirms my fears...’

German

Himmelsboten ...?

‘Heaven's messengers...? Then it is as I feared...’

The French and German names match the Japanese 天使い, 'envoys of heaven', where the English says 'Paragons'. They come from the 1.0 story. A Realm Reborn made them another name for the Ascians.

English, Y'shtola

They are known as the Bringers of Chaos...or Ascians, to give them their proper name.

‘An Ascian, then... one of the “heaven's messengers”, as the beast tribes call them.’

English, Y'shtola

Pardon? You would know if we Sharlayans have encountered Ascians before? ...I have never spoken to you of my homeland. How did you know whence I hail?

‘Is that the reason I left Sharlayan?’

English: you ask if Sharlayans met Ascians before; French: you ask if that is why she left Sharlayan.

English: you ask if Sharlayans met Ascians before; German: you ask if that is why she came from Sharlayan.

English: you ask if Sharlayans met Ascians before; Japanese: you ask if that is why she came from Sharlayan.

English, Ryssfloh

And your assistance is much appreciated, too, Lady Y'shtola. Please give our regards to the Scions.

‘You and the League of the Dawn are a blessing for Limsa Lominsa.’

A Bund is a league or alliance. The English 'Scions' means heirs.

English, Ryssfloh

And your assistance is much appreciated, too, Lady Y'shtola. Please give our regards to the Scions.

‘Please give my regards to everyone at “Dawn” as well.’

Japanese calls her group "Dawn"; English calls them the Scions.

English, Y'shtola

The thread of your fate forms a part of a most intriguing tapestry. Mayhap we will be afforded the chance to speak more in the near future.

‘I knew our paths would cross again, but I didn't know our destinies would be so closely linked.’

English says your fate is part of an intriguing tapestry; French says your destinies and hers are closely linked.

English, Y'shtola

A fearsome opponent...against whom you shall not stand alone!

French

Ouf !

‘Phew! I made it in time. I'm going to lend you a paw!’

‘I'll lend you a paw!’

Y'shtola is a cat-eared Miqo'te. Her paw is a feline twist on «donner un coup de main», 'to lend a hand'.

English says you won't stand alone; French says she'll lend you a paw, a pun on lending a hand.

English, Reyner

I have little doubt that you shall one day join the ranks of Eorzea's greatest adventurers. It is but a matter of time.

German

Sei dir sicher, dass du einmal eine bedeutende Rolle in Eorzeas Schicksal spielen wirst.

‘Be sure that you will one day play an important role in Eorzea's fate.’

English says you will join Eorzea's greatest adventurers; German says you will play an important role in Eorzea's fate.

English, Reyner

I have little doubt that you shall one day join the ranks of Eorzea's greatest adventurers. It is but a matter of time.

‘The captain of the Yellowjackets... Reyner has recognised it, so there's no mistake.’

Japanese has Reyner vouch for it on his own authority; English says it is a matter of time.

English, Reyner

Clearly, Baderon's eye for potential remains as sharp as ever, though I doubt even he imagined you capable of such feats.

‘And the Admiral will be just as impressed by how splendidly you are doing here in Limsa.’

‘Admiral Merlwyb too will surely be delighted!’

‘Admiral Bloefhiswyn, too, will be delighted to hear the tale of your adventures.’

English says even Baderon never imagined such feats; German says the Admiral will be just as impressed.

English says even Baderon never imagined such feats; Japanese says Admiral Merlwyb will surely be delighted.

French says the Admiral will be delighted to hear of you; English talks only of Baderon.

English, Reyner

Might you favor me with your own account of the day's events? Such victories bear retelling!

‘If you have a moment to spare, I'd like you to tell me a little more about yourself.’

‘I must admit that your past intrigues me, [name].’

English asks for your account of the day's events; French asks you to tell more about yourself.

French Reyner is curious about your past; English Reyner wants today's battle retold.

English, Merlwyb

You seem familiar. Have we met? Mayhap at a medal presentation or some such?

‘You are...? What is this throbbing in my head...’

Merlwyb's head throbs when she sees you, and her memory clouds over. It hints at the forgotten Warriors of Light.

English, Merlwyb

You seem familiar. Have we met? Mayhap at a medal presentation or some such?

‘Your face is familiar to me, but I can't manage to remember why...’

‘What is this throbbing feeling inside my head...?’

French drops the medal guess; she simply cannot place why you seem familiar.

Japanese has her feel a strange ache in her head on seeing you, no talk of medals.

English, Merlwyb

No? Have you kin in the Maelstrom?

‘It's no use. It's as if veiled in haze...’

‘It's just as if a haze had settled over it...’

Japanese has her say her memory is hazed over; English asks about relatives in the Maelstrom.

English, Merlwyb

I'll be sworn I─ But it is of little matter. To business.

German

Nein, natürlich nicht. Das wäre mir bekannt ...

‘No, of course not. I would know about it ... So, to business!’

French

C'est étrange, j'aurais juré t'avoir déjà vu(e) ailleurs...

‘Hm... It's strange, I would have sworn I had already seen you somewhere else...’

English starts to swear to something; German firmly says no, of course not, she would know.

French finishes the thought: she would swear she has seen you before. English breaks off.

English, Merlwyb

I'll be sworn I─ But it is of little matter. To business.

‘But why?’

English waves the thought aside as of little matter; Japanese wonders why she feels such nostalgia.

English, Merlwyb

I'll be sworn I─ But it is of little matter. To business.

‘Though this should be our first meeting, to feel such nostalgia...’

Japanese says she feels nostalgia though they have never met; English cuts off and moves on.

English, Merlwyb

I am Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Admiral of Limsa Lominsa.

German

Ich bin Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Admiral des Mahlstroms.

‘I am Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Admiral of the Maelstrom.’

English calls her Admiral of Limsa Lominsa; German calls her Admiral of the Maelstrom.

English, Merlwyb

A token of our gratitude. What worth is high regard without just reward, after all? Ha!

‘After all, nobody lives on air and honour alone.’

German twists a proverb: nobody lives on air and honour alone.

English, Merlwyb

Your fellow guests will be eager to take the measure of their newest hero, and some do not take kindly to being kept waiting. Till then, may you walk in the light of the Crystal.

‘Until then, keep watching over Limsa Lominsa, and may the Crystal's kindness show you the way.’

‘Without our guest of honor we can hardly begin, and some of the pirates get rather grumpy when they have to wait too long for their food.’

‘Please keep lending us your strength from now on.’

English says the other guests are eager to size up their newest hero; French asks you to keep watching over Limsa Lominsa.

English says the guests are eager to size up their newest hero; German says the feast can hardly begin without the guest of honor.

English says the guests are eager to size up their newest hero; Japanese asks you to keep lending them your strength.

Baderon

Good to 'ave ye aboard, lass/lad. Now then...where to start?

Baderon

Back when I was younger an' nastier, I earned me livin' as a sellsword. In that business, if ye wanted to know what yer enemy was up to, you 'ad to learn to read the orders ye prised from the cold dead 'ands of 'is mates. That's 'ow I came to know 'ow to read yer message.

Baderon

Truth be told, the script was only too bloody familiar. Them's Sahagin letters, lass/lad. An' I should know─I've gutted more fishback messengers than I can count.

Baderon

It gets worse, though... The plan to blow up the Victory is all in 'ere, right down to the fine details.

Baderon

Looks like they meant to raise eight kinds of 'ell in western La Noscea, then 'it the Maelstrom's new flagship in the confusion.

Baderon

The point bein', the attack on the Victory weren't the act of a few rebellious pirates─'twas a key part o' some canny bastard's grand plan.

Baderon

But if I'm readin' this aright, the attack itself came much too early. I'll wager they panicked when they saw ye was on to 'em, rushed in to do the job, an' buggered it up.

Baderon

Hmmm... Them tattoo-faced bastards as they say was payin' Ahtbyrm's old man, they're with the Serpent Reavers, right? ...But none o' their crew was there, was they? Did they 'ave summat better to do, or what?

Baderon

...Seven 'ells! I've got it all backwards! That mess at the Victory─that was meant to be the bloody distraction!

Baderon

The fishbacks ain't interested in the Maelstrom's baby! They're after men, just like they've always been. They're sendin' their pirate lackeys after a civilian target.

Baderon

This bit about raisin' 'ell in western La Noscea...that's where it'll be. Summat tells me Swiftperch is about to get 'it, an' 'it 'ard!

Baderon

'Ere's a rough translation o' the message.

Baderon

Take it to Commodore Reyner at the Coral Tower, an' tell 'im 'e's in fer a busy day.

Baderon

Oh, an' give 'im an 'and, eh? Ye can be damn sure 'e'll need one.

Deliver Baderon's note to Reyner

Reyner

You are to be commended for your part in thwarting the plot to destroy the Victory. Now, what can I do for you this day?

Reyner

You bear an urgent message from Baderon? Why do I get the feeling that my hopes for a quiet evening/afternoon are about to be cruelly dashed? Tell me, what is afoot?

Reyner

An assault on Swiftperch!? But we've seen nothing to suggest the Serpent Reavers are massing for an attack.

Reyner

Even so, it would be foolish to discount the possibility─Baderon is rarely wrong about such matters.

Yellowjacket

Commodore, sir!

Reyner

Report.

Yellowjacket

It's the Sahagin, sir! They've mounted a large-scale assault on South Tidegate, and threaten to overwhelm our defenses within the day. The garrison requests immediate reinforcements.

Reyner

Muster the troops and give the order to march.

Reyner

Aye, the Serpent Reavers are in league with the Sahagin.

Reyner

...Which means there is every chance this assault on Tidegate may yet prove to be another feint. The fact remains, however, that we can ill afford to ignore it. And that leaves Swiftperch vulnerable to those pirate traitors.

Reyner

It is at times such as these that I wish the Warriors of Light yet walked among us. But wishes will avail us naught. your name, you must serve in their absence. Make for Swiftperch with all haste and lend your strength to the squads I can spare for the settlement's defense.

Travel to Swiftperch and speak with Ryssfloh

Ryssfloh

Commodore Reyner sent word we'd be getting reinforcements, but I didn't expect him to send you! You certainly look like you've seen your share of action, though─you bear little resemblance to the wide-eyed whelp I met fresh off the ferry.

Ryssfloh

In any case, do you know what you're fighting for here? This place─Swiftperch─it was rebuilt by folk who stood strong in the face of every hardship the Calamity threw their way.

Ryssfloh

And we're not about to let some fish-fancying scum claim the honor of being the ones who finally broke their spirits. Don't give those pirate bastards one bloody ilm, you hear me?

Glazrael

Feint after bloody feint! Those pirates are getting too damn clever by half!

Yellowjacket

You've come to aid with the defense? Then well met, and well come!

Yellowjacket

Come on, you gutless bastards! Let's see how you fare against trained soldiers!

Reyner

your name, eagerly have I awaited your return!

Solo Instance

Glazrael

Here they come!

Serpent Reaver Deckhand

'Ere now, I thought all them Yellowjacket worms was meant to be busy. That useless scrag ain't followed the plan, 'as 'e?

Serpent Reaver Deckhand

Now what? Pull back and wait for our Sahagin brothers?

Baenryss

Piss on that! We ain't turnin' back empty-handed!

Baenryss

Remember, no killin' the smallfolk, or it'll be your blood what stains Lord Leviathan's altars!

Baenryss

The Yellowbellies ye can butcher at will! Them dirt-eatin' slugs'll be crushed under the full might o' the Serpent Reavers!

Ryssfloh

Seems Swiftperch was the main target after all, eh?

Ryssfloh

Squads One and Two, protect the townsfolk! Squad Three, you're our rear guard!

Ryssfloh

The rest of you─we meet their charge where we stand! Let us bear the commodore word of our victory, or no word at all!

Yellowjackets

Yellowjacket Infantry: For Limsa Lominsa!

Baenryss

Rargh! I'll gut all you Yellowbellies an' dance on yer gizzards!

System

Defeat the Serpent Reavers.

Ryssfloh

Leave no pirate scum standing! Show 'em how a Yellowjacket fights!

Glazrael

Bwahaha! Time to split some heads, adventurer! Let's start with the frontline fodder!

Ryssfloh

Is that a bloody voidsent!? Hold steady, lads!

Ryssfloh

More of the bastards!? Come on, then!

Baenryss of the Deep

All right, ye scurvy bastards... Here's a trick to make ye soil yer breeches!

Baenryss of the Deep

Dweller o' the Abyss, yer master calls! Heed me words an' smite me foes!

Ryssfloh

Damn...

Yellowjacket

So cold...

Yellowjacket

I'm done for...

Glazrael

Keep on pummeling him! He can't take much more of this!

Defeat the masked mage!

Masked Magus

Soon, you shall take your vile gifts to the grave!

Masked Magus

Mwahahaha! Writhe as the venom eats its way through your veins!

Masked Magus

An unwelcome guest. No matter, all shall fall before me!

Solo Instance Part 2

Ryssfloh

Well fought─the Reavers are beaten and scattered.

Ryssfloh

I'll take some men and hunt down the stragglers. Oh, but there may be more of them lurking about, so don't let your guard down just yet.

Masked Magus

The source of her/his strength becomes clear...

Masked Magus

You may have bested the golem, but you will not fare so well this day.

Masked Magus

F20223O mournful voice of creation! Send unto me a creature of the abyss, my thrall to command, that I may smite mine enemies!01

Masked Magus

Your very being imperils the plan. You cannot be suffered to live.

Masked Magus

Unnngh... That the wisdom of the Paragons should be brought low...by mere mortals...

Y'shtola

“Paragons,” did he say? Then it is as I feared.

Y'shtola

They are known as the Bringers of Chaos...or Ascians, to give them their proper name.

Y'shtola

It would seem our suspicions were correct─it is they who have been manipulating the beast tribes.

Y'shtola

Pardon? You would know if we Sharlayans have encountered Ascians before? ...I have never spoken to you of my homeland. How did you know whence I hail?

Y'shtola

Wait. I do begin to see. You have been blessed with a special gift.

Ryssfloh

Are you all right, lass/lad!? If I'd known a mean bugger like that was hiding in the bushes, I would've left a squad or six to keep you company.

Ryssfloh

Well, at least now we can call this kidnapping investigation to a close. Those Reavers were the ones spiriting folk away in the dead of night, and this bastard here was pulling all the strings.

Y'shtola

A trifle simplistic, but not inaccurate.

Y'shtola

I came as soon as I sensed his presence, but I never thought to find such a scene of carnage. Yet we prevailed. And thanks to your heroic actions, I have learned much.

Ryssfloh

Aye, “heroic” is the word. I don't want to think about what would've happened if you hadn't been here, friend.

Ryssfloh

And your assistance is much appreciated, too, Lady Y'shtola. Please give our regards to the Scions.

Y'shtola

I am glad to have played a role in bringing what I hope is an end to this disturbing spate of abductions.

Y'shtola

The thread of your fate forms a part of a most intriguing tapestry. Mayhap we will be afforded the chance to speak more in the near future.

Y'shtola

For now, however, you must see this particular tale to its conclusion. Pray send my greetings to Commodore Reyner.

Y'shtola

A fearsome opponent...against whom you shall not stand alone!

Masked Magus

No mortal should possess such strength!

Y'shtola

His power wanes! Afford him no chance to recover!

Report to Reyner at the Coral Tower

Reyner

Word of your exploits is already spreading through the ranks. My troops and I owe you a great debt of gratitude for your timely assistance.

Reyner

You have shown yourself to be possessed of a sure arm, a strong spirit, and sound judgment. Would that Limsa Lominsa had more of your like.

Reyner

I have little doubt that you shall one day join the ranks of Eorzea's greatest adventurers. It is but a matter of time.

Reyner

Clearly, Baderon's eye for potential remains as sharp as ever, though I doubt even he imagined you capable of such feats.

Reyner

Might you favor me with your own account of the day's events? Such victories bear retelling!

Reyner

Y'shtola has been working with us for quite some time, you see.

Reyner

And she was only too willing to assist the Yellowjackets in the kidnapping investigation, proving herself a stalwart ally of Limsa Lominsa yet again.

Reyner

Needless to say, after your part in thwarting the attempted sabotage of the Victory, and the small matter of your deeds at Swiftperch, you too have proven yourself a valued friend of the thalassocracy.

Yellowjacket

Admiral!

Reyner

May I present to you Admiral Bloefhiswyn.

Merlwyb

So this is the adventurer I've been reading about in the field reports.

Merlwyb

I am Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn, Admiral of Limsa Lominsa.

Merlwyb

On behalf of my people, I bid you thanks for the deeds you have done this day.

Merlwyb

Since you first set foot in our city, my good friend Baderon and Commodore Reyner have taken turns at regaling me with tales of your exploits.

Merlwyb

Safe to say, they left an impression. Join me at the coming banquet.

Merlwyb

A seat of honor at the celebratory feast is the least I can offer the woman/man who foiled the Sahagin.

Yellowjacket

Oho!

Yellowjacket

A seat at the feast!

Merlwyb

Oh, and don't be late.

Merlwyb

Your fellow guests will be eager to take the measure of their newest hero, and some do not take kindly to being kept waiting. Till then, may you walk in the light of the Crystal.
